Terms of Service
The rules for using White Light AC. Last updated: [date].
About these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of White Light AC — the White Light AC Scanner, the White Light AC Portal, our APIs and this website (together, the “Service”). The Service is operated by [operator legal name] (“we”, “us”).
By creating an account, redeeming a license key, running the Scanner or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of a community, team or organisation, you confirm you’re authorised to accept these Terms for it.
Definitions
- Customer — the person or community that holds a license and runs checks (for example a game-server owner and their staff).
- Player — a person whose PC is scanned at a Customer’s request.
- License — time-limited access to the Portal, granted by redeeming a license key.
- PIN — a one-time code a Customer issues so a Player’s scan is delivered to that Customer.
- Report — the results of a scan, including findings, scores and the data described on our Privacy page.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be old enough to form a binding agreement where you live, or have a parent or guardian’s consent. You must give accurate information when you register and keep it up to date.
We may refuse registration or a license where we reasonably suspect fraud, abuse or a breach of these Terms.
Keeping your account secure
You’re responsible for everything done through your account and the accounts of staff you invite. Use a strong, unique password, don’t share login details, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
We may contact you about your account, your license, security matters and changes to the Service using the email address on your account.
Acceptable use
You must not, and must not help anyone else to:
- scan a person’s PC without their knowledge, or use the Service to collect data for any purpose other than game-integrity checks;
- reverse engineer, decompile, tamper with, or attempt to bypass or interfere with the Scanner, its detections or its scoring, except as permitted by law that can’t be excluded by contract;
- probe, overload or disrupt the Service, or access it by automated means other than through features we provide;
- use the Service, or anything learned from it, to build, test or improve cheats, bypasses or competing detection products;
- publish or share Reports in a way that harasses, defames or exposes Players beyond what your community’s moderation genuinely requires;
- break any law, or infringe anyone else’s rights.
Account and key sharing
A license is for the Customer that redeemed it and the staff it invites through the Portal. Reselling, transferring, sublicensing or publicly sharing license keys or accounts is not allowed without our written permission. Keys that have been shared, resold or obtained fraudulently may be revoked.
Licence to use the Service
While your License is active and you comply with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service for checking Players in your community. Players may run the Scanner for the purpose of a check a Customer has requested.
The Service is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights not expressly granted.
Your responsibilities when scanning others
When you ask a Player to run a scan, you are responsible for doing so fairly and lawfully. In particular, you must:
- tell Players, before they scan, that a check will happen and what it involves — our For players page is written for this;
- have a valid reason and, where required, a lawful basis under data-protection law for requesting and reviewing the scan;
- limit access to Reports to staff who need it, and keep them no longer than you need them;
- handle requests from Players about their data, and pass on requests that concern our processing.
Players are never obliged to run a scan; what happens if they decline is a matter for your community’s rules.
Shared check history and player flags
To help communities recognise repeat offenders, the Service links checks by hardware ID and game account IDs. When you check or look up a player, you’ll see a summary of earlier checks of the same PC or accounts by other communities (date, community, result, failing findings and Windows install date), and other communities will see the same kind of summary of your checks. Full Reports are never shared with other communities.
You may flag a player only in good faith, based on evidence from a check or your community’s own moderation, with a short factual reason. Flags must not contain personal data beyond what’s needed, insults, or accusations you can’t support. Flags carry your community’s name. Players can dispute a flag; you must review disputes about your flags promptly and either remove the flag or give the player a factual reason for keeping it. We may edit or remove flags, and suspend flagging for Customers who misuse it.
Lookups are recorded in our audit log. Use them only to moderate your own community — not to profile, track or harass people.
What results mean
Reports present technical evidence and an automated risk assessment. They are not a determination that anyone cheated. Evidence can have innocent explanations, and no detection method is complete or error-free.
Moderation decisions — including warnings, bans and appeals — are made by the Customer under its own rules. We aren’t a party to those decisions and aren’t responsible for them. Review the evidence before acting; our Staff guide explains how.
Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep the Service available and accurate but don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, add or remove features, detection signatures and scoring at any time, for example to respond to new cheats. Parts of the Service, including the Scanner, may be in limited availability.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account or License, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service, Players or other Customers.
If we terminate for reasons other than your breach, we’ll give you reasonable notice where possible [and a pro-rata refund of unused paid time — confirm]. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
Purchases, renewals and refunds
Licenses are sold for fixed periods and do not renew automatically. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. Your license key is shown as soon as payment is confirmed and emailed to the address you gave at checkout. Redeeming an additional key extends your access.
[Refund policy to be completed by the operator — e.g. whether unused keys can be refunded within a set number of days, and how to request one.] Nothing in these Terms limits refund rights you have under applicable consumer law.
Chargebacks and payment disputes
Please contact us before disputing a payment so we can try to resolve the issue. If a payment is reversed or charged back, we may suspend the related License and account until the matter is resolved.
Prices and taxes
Prices are shown at the point of sale and may change for future purchases; changes don’t affect Licenses you’ve already bought. Prices [include / exclude — confirm] applicable taxes.
Data protection
Our Privacy page describes what the Scanner collects, what it never collects, and how this website handles data. For Reports, the Customer decides why and when a scan is requested; [describe controller/processor roles and any data-processing terms — confirm with counsel].
To access, correct or delete data about you, contact us using the details below. Where a Customer holds the data, we may refer you to them.
Intellectual property
The Service — including the Scanner, signatures, scoring, the Portal, this website, and the White Light AC name and logo — belongs to us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute or create derivative works from it except as these Terms allow. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
Third-party services
The Service may link to or rely on services operated by others (for example hosting, email or payment providers). Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them, and we aren’t responsible for them.
Disclaimer
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or community members, including losses arising from moderation decisions made using the Service.
Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the [12] months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Indemnity
You agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs arising from claims by third parties — including Players — that result from your breach of these Terms or your use of Reports, for example a moderation decision you made.
Consumer and local law
Some places don’t allow certain exclusions or limitations. Where that’s the case, those parts apply only as far as the law allows, and you keep any rights you have that can’t be waived.
Events outside our control
We aren’t responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages of hosting or network providers, attacks, natural disasters or actions of authorities.
Transfer of these terms
You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours, for example as part of a reorganisation or sale of the business, as long as your rights aren’t reduced.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we’ll give notice on this website or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the updated Terms; if you don’t agree, stop using the Service.
Severability and entire agreement
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. These Terms, together with the policies they refer to, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. Not enforcing a right straight away doesn’t waive it.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction], and the courts of [jurisdiction] have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections where you live.
Language
These Terms are written in English. If we provide a translation, the English version applies where they differ.
